2023 Itasca student research scholarship and fellowships available

Applications are open for three awards that support student researchers doing projects at Itasca Biological Station.

Opportunities are open to students at all University of Minnesota campuses and include:

  • Jim Winter Itasca Scholarship (1 award of $3000, maximum). Preference is for undergraduate student proposals, but graduate student proposals will be considered. This award is for promising students conducting studies at the Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories. This includes field courses and/or independent research.   • Itasca Biological Station & Laboratories Graduate Research Fellowships (2 awards of $5000 each, maximum). The Director's Fellowship has historically been to support research with an aquatic component, and the Tester Fellowships are newer with broader intent, including terrestrial research and creative conservation science. Applications are now open. Submissions are due March 6.

Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories (IBSL) presents researchers with a truly unique opportunity to investigate a wide variety of questions in a true living laboratory. Located within Itasca State Park, researchers have everything they need to design and carry out experiments in the field and the lab.
