Each year, the Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology, and Genetics (MCDB&G) graduate program recognizes outstanding students with four awards. This year’s recipients include Christopher Sipe (Perry B. Hackett Award) advised by Dr. Branden Moriarity, Kaushik Renganaath (Robert K. Herman Award) advised by Dr. Frank Albert, Haneul Jo (Bryant Keller Award) advised by Dr. Harald Junge, and Heather Hanson (Margaret A. Titus) advised by Dr. Lou Mansky.
About the awards
Perry B. Hackett Award: The Perry B. Hackett Award is given annually to an MCDB&G student in recognition of high-quality research and the best performance in the field of genome engineering. The $1000 award, sponsored by the Center for Genome Engineering, the Center for Precision Plant Genomics, and the Hackett Royalty Fund, will be awarded.
Robert K. Herman Award: The Robert K. Herman Award is given annually to an MCDB&G student in recognition of high-quality research and the best performance in the field of genetics. The $1000 award, sponsored by the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development, will be awarded.
Bryant Keller Scholarship Award: The Bryant Keller scholarship is a fund that was established in 2020 by the University of Minnesota Medical School and members of the Keller family in honor of Bryant Keller, a Ph.D. student who passed away suddenly in 2019. Bryant was a mentor to many younger scientists, a tireless advocate, and a generous team member. This scholarship encourages graduate students to excel academically, as mentors, and as ambassadors for biomedical research. This scholarship is designed to be used for travel.
Margaret A. Titus Award: The Margaret A. Titus Award is given annually to an MCDB&G student in recognition of high-quality research and the best performance in the field of cell biology. The $1000 award, sponsored by the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development, will be awarded.
