Come January each year, the world of entertainment launches into a season of awards and celebrity sightings with events like the Golden Globes, the Grammys, the Oscars and more. On campus, that recognition and teaching celebrity comes to life through the Golden Pipette Awards, an annual event that celebrates faculty for their acumen as educators.
Now running for more than a decade, the Golden Pipettes, hosted by the College of Biological Sciences, offers students the chance to recognize some of the educators who stand out for their ability to inspire and instruct. Prior to the event, students can nominate and vote for faculty for such categories as most engaging, most creative teaching style and the oft competitive funniest professor. The winners are announced at the Golden Pipette event each spring, where they receive a tie-dyed lab coat and give brief remarks what being an educator means to them.
This last spring, GCD faculty had a strong showing with four faculty receiving awards at the event:
- Jeffrey Simon - Best Canvas page
- Robert Brooker - Most Likely to Make You Laugh
- Anne Rougvie - Most Inspiring
- David Greenstein - Best Interim Dean
