Agrobacterium tumefaciens incites crown gall tumor disease on plants. The bacterium transfers a segment of its plasmid-borne DNA to plant cells using a type IV secretion apparatus assembled at a cell pole. Our research focuses on the mechanism of polar assembly of the secretion apparatus and that of substrate translocation.
